Night markets kick off

FERNVALE residents will be spoilt for determination when bargain night markets descend on the town’s main street.

From Wednesday residents will be competent to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Brisbane Valley Highway and browse through an array of arts and crafts, lodgings wares, gift lines and home cooking stalls.

A passing thought by a Fernvale dwelling who regularly attends markets in the region was all it took for the markets to start.

Cafe Kiks proprietor Denise Rogers said it was her close friend Anna McNally who suggested the idea.

“Anna and I were justifiable talking about how beautiful the town is of an afternoon when the sun goes down behind the mountains and the idea just went from there,” Ms Rogers said.

Within a few months Ms Rogers and Ms McNally had gained the weather of various shop owners and like-minded residents. So far two night markets have been held and will go on with to be held every fortnight on a Wednesday.

“We have about 12 stalls which range from retro baby clothes to hats, trifle bands, toys, home-made fudge, lollies and paintings, cupcakes, woodturning, whips and handcrafted tea towels and art,” Ms Rogers said.
