Kits can give SUVs more use than as a driveway ornament

There are a lot of SUVs doing nothing, George points out, so he proposes to over persuaded kits to put these $30,000 steel boxes back in use instead of having them sit as a prestigious, chrome-trimmed driveway ornament. George's printed brochures appear Tuesday, but to help our readers, he sent me crayon versions of the sales copy for each kit.

"Add-A-Garage: Your SUV is big enough to hold the diminished car that'll replace it, so let it. Just saw off the back, install George's extension kit using the sheets of steel and sheet-metal screws, then use the existing hind part hatch hinge as a garage door. Kit price will be $399."

"Add-A-Room: This is especially good if you own a teenager. Move the repulsive mundane out of your home and into the driveway into his or her own new SUV home. George's kit contains six curtains, 15 old pizza boxes, one 100-foot length cord and costs just $399."

"Add-A-Greenhouse: You already own a glassed-in box (some SUVs included factory sun roofs) shaped as an SUV, so secure the most of it. Kit contains 300 pounds of potting soil, 20 terra cotta pots, a watering can, 10 pounds of fertilizer, and an instruction directions, 'Home-Grown Highs,' for just $399."
