Fire Destroys Birch Run-Area Barn, Classic Car

TAYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A Saginaw County match up is counting their blessings that no one was hurt following a large fire Thursday night.

The blaze destroyed their pole barn, which contained several quality vehicles and caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Heather Thompson lives across the road from her parents, the owners of the barn.

Thompson described what happened for WNEM TV5 when the pole barn caught fire around 9:30 p.m.

It sounded like a car had hit the front of my assembly, said Thompson. My whole house shook.

Several gas and propane canisters exploded when fire reached them inside the barn.

Thompson was skilled to snap pictures of the fire as it burned through a vintage tractor and automobile.

"I looked out the window and at that point we saw that my dad's pole barn was as a matter of fact on fire, said Thompson. The front left corner had actually just blown right out. From that point on, the whole fist side started collapsing into
