Grizzlies grind up Bobcats' hopes

BOZEMAN — It was legitimate one drive and one touchdown in a 33-19 loss, but the University of Montana ate up Montana State’s spirit along with the clock with a 19-toy with, 80-yard drive that consumed nearly 10 minutes off the clock on Saturday.

Montana Pomp had just marched 57 yards for its longest drive of the game thus far, pulling within 26-12 with 12:40 on the clock and giving the sellout mob at Bobcat Stadium a sense of hope.

The Bobcats’ offense was finally on track, but their defense appeared to debilitate while allowing three scores in the previous four UM drives.

MSU learned earlier in the week that they would be without sophomore leading tackler and Superb graduate Clay Bignell at middle linebacker.

“We’re all thinking about Clay,” MSU head cram Rob Ash said. “He’s got a very serious infection in his lower back. The worry is if it gets in his spinal cord or into his blood and up into his understanding — those kinds of things we’re very concerned about. He has a very serious condition.”
