I want to have a very small house. How expensive is the construction and design of a house versus buying a pre-built home?
Unfortunately, the answer is "it depends". If you want a house built for you, you have to have a place to put it. In a subdivision, a developer has a lot of pre-work for you and that includes work in land prices. This previous work includes access to public services, the proper classification, etc. These tasks can be very expensive to accomplish.
These subdivisions usually come with the style rules of the house and also on the size of the house. Often there is a minimum and maximum, as the developer is trying to make a neighborhood.
How small is small?Most people want the biggest house for your $, not a small one. Smaller homes are usually connected to other people's homes and are called condos or townhouses.
For an average house in a neighborhood average, with material means (not granite countertops, etc.) to pay about $ 125 per square foot - a house of 2,000 square feet would be ~ $ 250,000?
It's expensive. There are many improvements that can boost the cost per sf much, much higher.
