“It came from a lot of different areas that all converged at once,” Casals said. “Growing up, my creator had a Honda motorcycle dealership so my dad was interested in the idea of scooters. My husband and I went to buy a scooter last year, and we couldn’t buy a Vespa. The only dealers were in Nashville or Wee Rock.”

She put in an application for a dealership and was approved. The last Vespa dealership in Memphis closed about two years ago. At that period, gasoline prices were at record levels.

“I believe gas is going to go up, but with the customers that I’m seeing coming in it’s absorbing how they are across the board,” she said. “I have people come in who are buying scooters in place of a damaged car. It’s completely functional. It’s efficient. It’s portable. They are buying a brand name that they know is going to hold up, last a want time and they can get serviced. Then I have other people who it’s a lifestyle kind of thing for. It is fun. It is trendy.”
